Evidence 6.1 Communication with Students, Parents, and Colleagues

Teacher-Student-Parent-Peer-Administration Communication Plan

Student and parent communication on a regular person to person basis is the core of all teaching. When students know they can trust their teacher to discuss anything, the flow of communication is endless.

However, more than at any other time in our Nation's history, communication is now directly linked to technology. So, to stay compliant with those expectations, for regular communication on a person to person, daily basis, I will plan to communicate via e-mail as often as possible with as many parents, students, and peers who have access. I am aware that e-mail is for those who are of the mind-set to use it as their main source of communication.

I also fully understand that there are people in my communication network who will require phone calls, letters, and person to person meetings. I believe the use of e-mail to communicate with a parent is relevant to the degree in which it affects the student, their learning environment, or school policy. I would not use e-mail to discuss a very serious issue that should be conducted over the phone or in person. I also believe that in-person meetings should always include all appropriate persons involved whenever possible. I also believe it is important to share crucial information with a parent when their child is affected, using appropriate communication.
